Lets Make Difference in a Women's World :)

My fellow Americans I'm willing to talk about women's right. Me as a woman know better than any other men. At the 19th to 20th century women had passed through suffrage. Women couldn't vote because their opinions were not counted. Men believed that women were inferior to them and that they were not intelligent. In other words, women were treated badly by men.

Women can't be denied to vote nor any other citizen of the United States of America. I demand that women should vote too, it is black or white they should vote. Black American men already have the right to vote in the 15th Amendment. I personally think is fair for them to vote but women should have been included in this amendment. Women would never surrender, we will keep fighting till we have the right to vote and also gain respect. This is why I'm declaring the 19th amendment. Women should have the right to vote I once again repeat. The denial to vote because of the basis of sex should not occur. Women should also have the right to express themselves and say their opinions about something at the congress. The National Women Suffrage Association (NWSA) would keep being more aggressive due to their attempts to win suffrage. Any feminist should not be abused by a men nor any other person. Women are just fighting for what they want. I am sure that men would do the same thing, fight for their rights.

My Americans, my intentions are not to brainwash anyone. I'm letting you to decide whether you think if its fair or not. Feminist have all the right to speak at congress, say what they want, sign documents, divorce if they want. They have the right to be equal to men. If men are not allowed to do something than they would stand up and fight for their rights.

Changes : Women's Movement

There were different changes done after women had the right to vote. Women had more liberty but they were also discriminated. Men kept treating women like if they were inferior to them, also like if women were not intelligent. When women finally had the opportunity to vote. There were other unfair things that women could not do but like always, women fought for what they most wanted in life. Feminist knew what they wanted. The women's movement had being very long. Many organizations were established after they finally had the chance to vote.

The largest women's right group was name the National Organization for Women (NOW). This organization was seeking to end sexual discrimination.Women had low paying jobs, only men had high paying jobs. In 1969, California became the only state to establish a Divorce Law. This law is about allowing couples to divorce. By 1985 every state had established the same law. Ms Magazine was the first magazine published as a sample insert in New York magazine. Many copies were sold in only 8 days. This magazine became the major forum for feminist voices. The Equal Rights Amendment or ERA was passed by congress and so it could be ratified; it was sent to the states. This amendment said the following: "Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex." but this amendment had died because it had failed while ratification. Some states believed in abortion. In 1973 the Supreme Court established women's right to safe and legal abortion. If a women is pregnant or might become pregnant they could not deny a job or promotion. The supreme court had also find that sexual harassment is a way of illegal job discrimination.

Women had more liberation after they finally had the chance to vote. Women were discriminated by men everywhere they went. Even though it was at their workplace or anywhere else. In 1994 The Violence Against Women's Act had tightens the federal penalties for sex offenders, funds services for victims of rape and domestic violence, and provides for special training of police officers. Women had a really unfair life and they knew they did, so that is why they fought for what they most wanted.

Struggles & Activism During Women's Movement

   Women attempted to resist discrimination and today it still happens and we haven't realize it. Women stood up for themselves and fight back if they were discriminated. women often argued that they had no outlet of expressions other than " getting married and bearing children". The women's movement of the 1960s and 1970s drew inspiration from the civil rights movement. This was the second wave of feminism. Women had joined the worforce and organizations like the Peace Corps.

   Women fought for what they most wanted that it was to vote. Women could not divorce, they had to stay married even though women were in an abusive marriage. Women didn't had any right to acquire any property during marriage; women couldn't do contracts. Women were domestic abuse and rape.Women took measures to improve their lot; 28 professional women established the National Organization for Women (NOW). This was established to take action to bring American women into participation in the American society. Similar organizations were created and it helped make women  increasingly aware of their limited opportunities. There were no places for women to stay, if they were being abused; women stayed homeless. Feminist that were abused since a child were the first ones that established shelters specifically for battered women. Most of risked and lost their life for the movement.

   Women had passed through a lot, and the women's movement has a lot to talk about, it has a very interesting history. Feminist had passes through discrimination, men believed women were not intelligent and how feminist acted was the best way to demonstrate they were very intelligent. Feminist knew how to handle that pressure. Women's liberation had transfixed and transfigured millions of feminist lifes.

Women's Oppression in the U.S.A

   Women in America fought to have the right to vote. They finally had the chance to vote in August 26,1920. After women finally had the right to vote they started to be discriminated. Since women started becoming more independent men started to treat women different. It was thought that women were inferior to men, but in reality they are wrong, we are all equal. Women were not only discriminated but they were and still are physically and emotionally abused. I dare to think that women never expected to live this episode of life.

   Women are oppressed every single day, its at work place or at home they were still oppressed. In women's workplace they are forced to have a low paying and it wasn't a job that had a high payment, it was an unskilled job. Feminist never stop working, they leave their work to get home and face another time of oppression. they had to take care of the food for their kids and husband and if it wasn't enough, what men wanted, they take it to another level, face violence. Thousands of women were raped or beaten up. It was thought that women were not equal to men and today it is still thought that way. It is said that women are biologically inferior than men. Do you really believe that? There is no evidence for men to think that women are inferior than men. By giving women the worst job with low wages and no job security caused women's oppression. Bosses believe that paying women low wages is fair because men were the main bread. Since women had low wages they tend to depend on men and it was even worst when the abuse. Sexist idea had spread because of the media; newspaper, television, books, radio, and advertisements. the media promoted very hateful ideas about women and images of them. work men believed those hateful ideas about women told by the ruling class. People say that women must accept their inferior position because it is part of their culture. Women have the right for liberation, to shape, and change culture were ever they belong.

   Women struggled to have the right to vote. They finally had that chance on August 26,1920, but as soon as they had that chance they were discriminated a lot by men. Women had become more independent and because of that men had treated women like if they were not worth it. Today discrimination over women has not ended. Women were physically and emotionally abused, (this is still today). Many men say that women are worst than men, but who really caused that? Men did.

    Its kind off a feminist topic to discuss but its very important for other people to understand how women at the 1800's started to feel when they were not taken as granted and making them think their opinions never counted. Women joined together and created their group to fight for their rights and to gain respect. Women were discriminated and are still today. American Feminist could not vote, have jobs and were considered  less intelligent than men. Is that a way for a women to be treated? 

    The first women rights convention was held in Seneca Falls, New York in 1848. there were 68 women and 32 men that signed the declaration of sentiments. This declaration sets the agenda for the women right's movement; Men voted for women rights. National Women's Rights convention took place in Worcester, Massachusetts; there were about 1,000 participating. American feminist went state-by-state creating campaigns to obtain voting right for them. Colorado was the first state to adopt the amendment of granting women to vote. After colorado the following were Utah and Idaho at 1896, Washington state at 1910, Califronia at 1911, Oregon, Kansas, and Arkansas in 1912, Alaska and Illinois in 1913, Montana and Nevada in 1914, New York in 1917, Michigan, South Dakota, and Oklahoma in 1918. American feminist in 1870, 60 percent of working women were in domestic services. By 1920 women made up 13 percent of the professional ranks. Women started to go out for more than just jobs. In 1892, membership in women’s clubs was about 100,000. By 1917, it was more than one million; and women’s increasing independence was reflected in the fact that the divorce rate increased from 1 in every 21 marriages in 1880 to 1 in 9 by 1916.

 In 1920 American feminist had the opportunity to vote in every state.

    Women realized they were not treated equally. They were discriminated by every men and they didn't received respect. Women's opinions about something were nothing, they were not counted as anything. American feminist resulted to be more stronger than any other man. They fought for their rights and that's something that not everyone would be able to do. American feminist could not vote nor have jobs Discrimination is still today but what matter most is that women had force them selves to be known and not be treated as nothing and being proud of what they had done.

Gabriela's essay about the Native Americans was very very good. I can tell that she knew this topic a lot. It seemed like she knew what she was talking about. I liked that she posted a photograph of an indian when he had his hair cut off to be assimilated to the white americans. Shee explained how native americans were treated by the white americans and in what ways they were assimilated.

Mariah's essay of the native americans is another essay that i enjoyed reading. she was very organizeed when talking of the events that occured with the white americans and Native Americans. She explained how did indians learn to scalp and i think thats very important for other people to know because some people are very imature at this topic and will say that the indians were the ones who started that, which they didn't.

Her Native American essay was really interesting. I liked how she started from how the Native Americans were before the White Americans came.She explained how the Native Americans lived and how happy they were. She explained how the White Americans lied about the Indians. They told they were savages and arrogant. She did a good job.

I really like ivania's essay. It gave me goosebumps to remember how Native Americans used to live in their own respected land. She did a good job explaining how they used to live and how they ended up living. The Native Americans didn't deserve to live that way.

I loved her essay, she was really creative. She explained how native americans were treated by watching a movie and explaining what happened, which was the exact thing. The movie was "Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee". I like that she atleast posted a photograph to support her essay. her essay post was very good.

White American doing the Best for the Native Americans?

        White Americans wanted to make people think that they were giving the Native Americans the best, but they really weren't. What happened in Wounded Knee was definitely not a battle, it was a massacre; Native Americans were not ready for that. White Americans wanted Native Americans to assimilate their culture. Native Americans were peaceful people who promoted tranquility. They even moved to Canada to avoid any risk in the United States.

        What happened in Wounded Knee today it's known as "Wounded Knee's Massacre" but the White Americans would name it as the Battle of Wounded Knee. This tragically event took place on the Lakota Sioux reservation in 1890. White Americans ordered Native Americans to stop doing their ritual, The Ghost Dance. White Americans thought that the Ghost Dance was disrespectful. The Ghost Dance was to celebrate a hope for day of reckoning when settlers would disappear the buffaloes would return and Native Americans would reunite with their dead ancestors. White American troops went to Indian's reservation and get their firearms, that way they wont have any chance to defend themselves. White American troops put cannons surrounding the Indian's Reservation. Most Native Americans died. They were 150 Indians killed and 50 were wounded. Men ,women, and children were killed.

        White people wanted Native Americans to assimilate American culture. Indian boys had to cut off their very long hair like white American boys did. Teachers forced their Indian students to have their White American name. Charles, a Native American man that was sent to Boston, was assimilated as an American. He used to be forced by a teacher to invent and say his White American name.

        Native Americans were peaceful people who promoted tranquility, they even moved to Canada to avoid any fighting with the white Americans. Sherman burned down Indian houses. clothes, furniture or in a short word, EVERYTHING. He did that because Indians killed Cluster in a battle, he wanted to rebel from the death of his good friend. Sherman was known of burning down things after war to the Native Americans, and that's what he did. So when White Americans fought with the Indians, the whites won because the Indians gave up. Sitting Bull, the best est leader, known by never giving up, decided with Sherman to go to war. After the war, all the Native Americans moved to Canada and there they were gladly welcomed.

        The White Americans wanted to make everyone think they were doing the best for the Native Americans, but they didn't, they only wanted land and ended killing most of Native Americans. What happened in Wounded Knee was not a battle, like white officials called it. It was a massacre, they had no idea that they were going to be attacked. The White Americans were very strict by wanting the Native Americans to assimilate them. They forced Indians to have their white name. Indians are an example of peace and tranquility. They moved to Canada to avoid fighting with the White Americans.

It was interesting because both of our families were brought here to farm and they were also near, who knows if they had met before. I love, love, love her post of Puerto Rico's past because it's all true, the fact that Puerto Rico can move to Texas and Colorado like any other American Citizen makes us know that we are different from the rest of Latin Americans. Her journal entry was amazing it seemed like a movie.

My Heritage (:

Asking my mom about our heritage was something amazing to hear. Both of my last names are decedent of farmers that were sent to Puerto Rico. My mothers grandfather own land in Maunabo, Puerto Rico one of his son became mayor of Maunabo for years (my mom's uncle), he passed away 4 years ago. My mother's last name decedent are from Brazil and my Father's last name is from Spain, a rich white family that had black slaves in which they gave them their last name. My family is not pure at all it has a mix of Indian, African American, Portuguese, and Slovakian. I am very proud of my heritage.

Current Immigration Issue Video :)

Sometimes I'm disconnected from whats happening in the world and I was searching through you tube and saw this video. I can't believe this., prejudice and discrimination wont stop! I think is very immature what Americans are today thinking. We are all human beings not animals. The congress of Legislature should decide a new law, obligating patrons to have immigrants on their jobs so they could benefit themselves for example federal programs.

 My name is Paolina and your new name will be Daisy. I love Daisies. I am from Verona,Italy and im 17 years old. Today was a very weird day, i woke up thinking about what i was dreaming which was my mom repeating "AMERICAN DREAM" and we receive a mail of dad from America telling us that we might move to the Unites States. I wish we go to America, I've heard that's the only hope for a better life, and my only love lives there now,his name is Giacomo. I never knew why should we move to the U.S. since I realized that Italy was becoming a horrible place to live. Many people are unemployed, there's a high mortality, a little or no medical care at all, a little or no schooling at all too, poor housing, and starvation. we should also be part of the AMERICAN DREAM.

It has being a long time I haven't wrote, but my family and I have been very busy packing to move to the United States (it came true). Right now im in the ship and is very crowded and filthy. I am very hungry. My dad took off first to the US. I heard he is doing better than in Italy. I wonder why there's so much Italians isn't it supposed to be more British than Italians since we take the ship in England? o well that means i wont be alone.
P.S. We will land in the state of New York.

Sorry for forgetting about you again, I didn't had time to write because people tend to steal things and i was responsible of my stuff. I thought I was going to die of hunger but I didn't. Sometimes we couldn't eat because of the amount of people at the ship(to many), it was horrible but I suppose it's part of it. I'm in an apartment my dad rent until we have enough money to have our own. He had an American friend who helped him a lot. Right now I'm getting a rest, I've been working all day with my mom, like cleaning other people's houses. My mom and I clean the house of a rich American family. They treat us like slaves we are not slaves we are just doing a favor, or is it the same? It's awkward to be in a place of someone you don't know and more if you have notice that they don't like you. I think I want to go back.

All the work is driving me crazy, my dad working as a laborer is not helping at all and my mom and I can't. I thought that America would help our family situation, but it seems like it doesn't. There's to much discrimination here and I kind off hate dealing with it. Discrimination is so severe that we had to go live in sectors. Italians are located in Ellis Island in New York. So we had to move again which is more work done. Sometimes I regret telling that America was the hope for a better life. Today came the news of violence against Italians in New Orleans. Living in here is getting harder every time, life in Italy was not that hard as here and trust me it wasn't good either.

History of Italian's Immigration to the US

While some people from all over the world were struggling on their home place somes Italians immigrated to the United States of America. Italy's taxes were very high, people died of diseases like the famine and Italy was also over populated. Poverty and natural disasters were also reasons why Italians immigrated to the United States. Southern Italy illiteracy rate was 70% ten times the rate in England, France and Germany.

Italians were the largest immigration recipient in the United States even thought countries from all over the world were immigrating in search of an easy life. Italians migrated to the U.S. more than any other Europeans. Italians had created a large ethnic group at the U.S.They arrived to New York like any other European immigrant. Italians had their own community which is known as Little Italy because they feared the Irish and German community

Cheap land at the United States was no longer found, so most of Italians became urban. They worked jobs like sewer cleaning, shoe shinning, or rag picking. Italians worked on what ever they were ordered to do. No hard, dirty, or dangerous job could have stopped them from earning money. They are known for accepting any kind of job. Children worked too at a young age.Most of Italians clustered into groups by their place of origin. they were always overcrowded and filthy all over the United States. Italians tend to skimp on food just to save up money. At the late 19th and 20th century most Italians became fish men, shoemakers, waiters, fruit sellers & tradesmen. The majority of Italians were Catholics, but when they arrived to America they discovered that the Catholic Church was dominated by the Irish hierarchy.

Most Italians were unskilled but time passed and they rose up and became skillful. They were known for their diligence and sobriety at jobs as workmen. Italians preferred to work any job other than getting educated and entering a profession. Immigrating to another place at first would be a very difficult situation but to be able to do that people should be extra ready. Immigrating to the United States of America at this time of history might be something that i had always wanted, but people get discriminated by being fromforeign place.
